Dukan – Day 67

Well, like my Dukan buddy Kath, no loss, no gain.. I’m cool with that πŸ™‚

I want to share 2 pics from food this week to show you that dining Dukan can be yummy! Both meals are PP ( pure protein) meals.

Lunch of beef and spicy tofu. Yum!

20111027-191511.jpg

And dinner… Talapia, onions, garlic stems and cottage cheese (low fat).

I’m satisfied, and usually can’t finish my 9″ plate of food!

Hope you all have a great day!

Dukan- Day 66

Tuesday was a PV Day
Daily weight loss: 2.4 lbs/1.10 kgs
Total weight loss: 37.9 lbs/17.21 kgs

Well, it appears I’ve had a whoosh! It’s a term Dr. Dukan uses for a big noticeable change on the scale. Yesterday I really noticed change in the mirror. It’s hard when you see yourself daily to actually “see” the loss.

Breakfast: 2 boiled tea eggs as I dragged myself out of the hospital from being there all night. My weigh in yesterday actually occurred after eating those eggs, but also after walking a mile home from work.
Slept for three hours then…
Snack: pot of FF Greek yogurt with bran and Splenda.
Lunch (late): tin of tuna, sliced cucumber and 2 Tbs LF Cottage cheese
Dinner: small steak and soy beans

I have no veggies left in the house! Good thing today is a PP day!

Now off to work while the other side of the world sleeps!

Ciao!

Dukan – Day 63 – A Little Cheat

Saturday – A PV Day
No scale to weigh myself as I am in Hong Kong on a border run. I arrived in the morning and checked in by noon.. Put my walking shoes on and hit the pavement! Hong Kong is a lot like San Francisco, very hilly!

After a good two hour walk up towards the peak I made my way to Ryan’s Chicago Steakhouse. This would be where my first cheat in NINE weeks on this diet happened. Not earth shattering mind you, but a cheat, nevertheless. I ordered their burger (bun less of course) with blue cheese AND bacon… AMERICAN BACON, like what I make for breakfast when I’m in America… OMG, it was so yummy πŸ™‚ I refuse to look up the nutrition facts on blue cheese, I don’t want to know. I then walked an hour back to the hotel and hung out online for a bit.
Dinner was at a different mall where the H & M store is. I am so stoked! I bought 2 shirts and a sweater and they are all size ‘L’ !! There was no choice on what to try on because XL does not exist here… LOL. I reluctantly took them in the dressing room and was shocked that they fit… I let out a woo HOOso loud that it brought the try-on girl down to make sure I was OK πŸ™‚
To reward myself I went to get shashimi. I had 2 big pieces of tuna with wasabi and soy sauce, and was full.
I then caught a taxi back to the hotel and did the 15 min. climb up the big hill behind the hotel and 15 mins. Back down. So, I’m hoping that 3.5 hours of hiking up hills makes up for the sin of the cheat. No regrets!

This morning I had 3 pieces of meat for breakfast, that was the only non-carb in the hotel buffet 😦
Back upstairs for some online time and a nice long Skype chat πŸ˜‰
Lunch back at Ryan’s and same same as yesterday’s lunch πŸ˜€ So 2 cheats in a row, I feel happy that I allowed myself this treat! I walked there after a 45 min. hike (so 1.5 hours total) and now I’m sitting in a Starbucks having a venti latte with skim milk and Splenda writing my blog.
It’s been a FABULOUS weekend… I am happy and life is good πŸ™‚

Ciao!

Dukan – Day 62

Yesterday was a PV day
No change in weight loss, which was a little disappointing because I’m right at the crux of reaching a goal and I thought I’d surpass it, maafi mushkila or as the say in Chinese ma watea (no promblemo).

Still felt a bit crappy in the morning, but had that lovely birth so it balanced it out.
Breakfast: boiled tea egg
Went home at 900 am to try to sleep from being up all night, not happening… Construction in flat above me, kid screaming in a neighboring building, new business must have opened because fireworks going off outside (this happens day & night, in fact it happened at 545 this morning, thank God I was up preparing for my flight!), then the kids at the school were outside doing calisthenics and marching. So, I got up and did laundry.
Lunch: Kath’s bran crepes x 2 eggs.
Back to work to teach class to nurses… Exhausted to the point of nausea 😦
Snack: boiled tea egg
Finished office work at 430 and walked home, stopping at halal Chinese restaurant to pick up dinner, shaved beef with cilantro and green beans and mushrooms with red hot chili peppers. They have finally stopped offering me rice πŸ™‚
Up early for this mornings flight to Hong Kong.
So now I’m on a flight to Hong Kong on what is called a border run. I’m on a 6 month visa to china, but have to exit every 30 days until I get my residency visa, so I have to do an overnight stay and fly back tomorrow. Plan on doing some hiking in the hillsides of the city both days and will have pics to post in my next blog.

Dukan – day 54

Today was a PP Day

Daily weight loss: 0.4 lbs/0.2 kg
Total weight loss: 31.7 lb/14.41 kg

I find it funny that I don’t manage to get veggies in on my PV days until dinner. They are available. But there just isn’t the desire. And even on PP days, adding garlic and onion seems like such a treat!

I had Chiara over for dinner last night. When I was here in China in May I was blessed to be the midwife that attended her water birth of baby Alessaundro… all 4.2 kgs of him! She is working with me now, so after work we strolled the long way home 1.3 miles vs .9 mile, and I cooked us steak. For her a big salad, cucumber, garlic stems and garlic cloves. For me garlic stems and garlic cloves πŸ™‚ it was nice cooking for someone!

I had a pot of yogurt with bran and Splenda for dessert.

Going to upload pic of my lunch, for Eric. It’s basically shaved roast beef with cilantro and some soy sauce. The plates are about 4 inches across and I get 2 to be able to pick out the fatty pieces and still get a bit of food, LOL You can see Vivien’s lunch in the background πŸ™‚

How has everyone else been doing? As always, thanks for the encouragement! πŸ˜€

Dukan – Day 52

Today was a PP day.
Day 51 no change from day before.

Today:
Daily weight loss: 0.9 lb/0.40 kg
Total weight loss: 30.4 lb/13.81 kg
So back to what I was on Day 49… Yay!

Still a bit sore from the workouts, but getting better. When I said “first workout in a long time” the other day, that should have said first workout with other people. I have been doing exercises from my friend John Gerahty’s DVD and it’s so tough I only get through about 25% of it. You can learn more about John at Courageous Authenticity

My class yesterday was cancelled, but since I was up at 0545 and dressed I popped John’s DVD in and was able to get through about 40%… so I’m improving πŸ™‚

Breakfast: 2 boiled eggs with awesome Trader Joes Everyday Seasoning sprinkled on (thanks, Barbara!) 2 slices of ham.
Lunch: See above… No one wanted to go to lunch, so I ate what I had in my backpack.
Snack: Pot of FF yogurt with Splenda and bran
Dinner: a poor excuse for a “filet” steak, that was fatty, grisly and gave me dodgy tummy 😦

My day ended late (haven’t been up past 11 in a while!) with a 2 hour Skype conversation with Lucy and Ethel, that was totally worth going to bed late for… And now, a long deserved pajama day!

Ciao

Dukan – Day 50

Today was a PV day.
Daily weight loss: +0.9 lb/+0.4 kg
Total weight loss: 29.5 lb/13.41 kg

Well, a little disappointed that I gained nearly a pound, but knew it had to happen at some point! I woke up sore as hell from my first workout in 3 years! Actually almost to the day… But a good sore. A “oh wow, I forgot about THOSE muscles” sore. I work out again tomorrow πŸ™‚

Breakfast: 2 boiled eggs
Snack: FF cottage cheese
Lunch: Tuna with an egg mashed up and Dijon mustard
Dinner: 2 small pork chops, salad, mushrooms and garlic stems

I ate dinner late and didn’t get my walk in after dinner. I did walk the 1.5 km to work and back, for a total of 3 km and 40 or so mins walking at a brisk pace.

I hope everyone has a blessed day!

Ciao!

Dukan – Day 49 – 7 weeks in

Today was a PP Day.
Daily Weight Loss: 0.9 lb/0.40 kg
Total Wight Loss: 30.4 lb/13.81 kg

30 pounds!!! I couldn’t be more pleased! This program is really working for me!
Just a little bit about my daily routine. I work 0.9 miles (1.5 kms) from where I live. Every single morning for the last couple of weeks I’ve walked to and from work. I’ve been doing a brisk walk, getting my heart rate into the 140’s.
This morning I started a thrice weekly cardio/core body class… at 630 a.m.!!! So, I got up, went to class, was able to do about 40% of the stuff in the class and then walked home, listening to the soundtrack of GI Jane. Demi inspires me πŸ™‚
I’m giving a lecture this afternoon, so I’ll walk back to work and home again. Nearly 4 miles of walking + a cardio/core workout… Hope my body doesn’t get mad at me!
What have YOU done for exercise this week?
Ciao!

Dukan – Day 48

Today was suppose to be a PP day but turned out to be a PV day. I had so many leftover veggies in the fridge, that I didn’t want them to go to waste. It turned out that it was OK, because I still lost weight, which is a good thing. The other good thing…
my BMI is under 40! YAY!

Daily Weight Loss: 0.7 lb/0.30 kg
Total Weight Loss: 29.5 lb/13.41 kg

I want to post this again, because it’s been SO helpful! Charlotte is a fellow Dukaner who created this amazing spreadsheet… I love it and recommend it to anyone doing a diet program….Β http://charlottesdukandiet.wordpress.com/2010/08/11/the-progress-tracker/

The one nice thing about having so many parameters to watch is that as long as you are losing, every few days there is a new milestone. When I read Dr. Dukan’s book, I didn’t think weighing in everyday was a good idea. I am totally converted on that now. It is a great idea for many reasons:

  1. You see on a daily basis whether you’ve gained or loss. This helps you get back on track. I was worried while in Shanghai this week that I wouldn’t be weighing myself everyday. That “worry” made me stay on track, because the only person I’m doing this program for is ME, and I sure don’t want to disappoint ME πŸ™‚
  2. You see milestones hit every week, as long as you’re losing. Last week I hit 25 pounds gone AND 2 stone! Today my BMI is under 40… YAY for me πŸ™‚ These little milestones make the small sacrifices worth it!
  3. In combination with blogging, it keeps you accountable. If not to anyone else, to yourself. Blogging is like journaling, but making it public. The benefit of blogging is that your mom and your friends and your Dukaners and your cyber-friends can check in on you and cheer you on. For me, this cheering has made a WORLD of difference. Because even though first and foremost I want to make ME happy, it is so nice to see other peoples enthusiasm for what you are doing. We all love receiving positive feedback… and at least for me, it has made this journey much easier!
Now, for my worries… I worry that I’ll hit a plateau, I mean seriously, how long can the losing go on before my body says… “um, we’re taking a break here”. I still have A LOT of weight to lose. My cynical side says that it’s going to happen. But, as I lie in bed at night and read Dr. Dukan’s book, I realize that even though there may be some small bumps in the road, the program is sound. If you eat frequent, small meals, that are the prescribed foods for the day, you may not plateau too much for too long. Why? Because your body doesn’t think you’re starving it like it does when you fast or seriously reduce calories. It takes those meals and uses up the calories for energy and you keep losing weight.
For now, I’m going to just try not to worry about it. Keep sticking to the program and see day by day what that scale says. So far, so good. And thanks to all of you that pop in and read and leave messages… they help… A LOT… especially this girl who is so far from home, in a country that eats lots of RICE πŸ™‚ heheh

Dukan – Day 43 – Down 2 stone!

Today was supposed to be a PV day but ended up a PP day.

Daily Weight Loss: 2.0 lb/0.90 kg
Total Weight Loss: 28.2 lb/12.81 kg . but most importantly I hit a milestone.. 2.01 STONE!
I know… you guys are saying “what the hell is a stone!?!?” … well it’s an imperial weight, mostly used in England and Ireland Β equal to 14 pounds. It is used mostly for personal body weight measurement. So, “I’m down 2 stone”… Sounds nice πŸ™‚

Yesterday was a pretty emotional day for me. I resigned from my job in Al Ain, UAE, I had to write emails to some pretty stunned people, but I had great relief from just doing it and moving on from what had become a nightmare for many reasons.

I had the bad news from my amazing friend Amanda that her sweet 4 year old Gavin was probably not going to survive graft versus host disease from a transplant he received to heal him from not one, but two different types of leukemias… Gavin, who I was honored to receive into my hands and hand up to a mommy who deserved and got a 2nd chance.

I had the elation of finally sitting down and typing up the itinerary for the trip to Thailand next month with Cathy, Karen and Dominique… up and down all day!

And what do I USUALLY do when I’m on a roller coaster emotionally? Especially the downside of it… EAT… comfort EAT… comfort EAT CARBS. What did I do instead? WALK, WALK, and more WALK. And drank a crapload of water! What a difference! I don’t feel even worse (emotionally or physically) because I downed a bag of chips. As tempting as that might be.

Late Breakfast: 2 eggs fried (by the way I’m still using olive oil to cook with) and 3 little pork rashers… like bacon, but smaller and rounder. 1/2 liter water, coffee
Snack: a couple of bitefuls of that Fat Free Cottage cheese… YUM
Snack: the leftover 3 rashers from the morning
Dinner: 3 slices of ham, 2 boiled eggs with a schmear of Fat Free
Philly’s cream cheese that tasted yucky! 750 mL water
Snack: Pot of FF yogurt with bran and splenda 1/2 liter water

It wasn’t so hard not comfort eating. Made easier by the fact that there is no “old” comfort food in the house. I’m comforting myself on boiled eggs and water πŸ˜€ and that is making all the difference in my weight loss!
