Dukan – Day 110

Thursday was a PV (Protein/Veggie) day.

Daily weight loss: -0.4 lb/-0.2 kg (gained a 1/2 pound) 😦
Total weight loss: 51.1 lb/23.21 kg

So a 1/2 pound gain coming off of 4 PP days… not a big deal. I think my volume of intake has increased since Lucy has been here and I’m thinking of adjusting that tonight. I will make my own meal, with the amounts I’ve gotten used to, then make hers… see if that works. Last night after dinner I felt “too” full. Haven’t had the feeling in a long time. I’m also drinking more coffee and tea and less water.

Breakfast: 2 Tea Eggs… the advantage of buying these from the vendor downstairs is that I can hold them in my hands to keep warm on the walk to work 🙂 Coffee x 2
Lunch: Beef slices, mushrooms and green beans with chilis, 550 mL bottle of water.
Afternoon: Coffee
Dinner: New Orleans style talapia, onions, garlic stems and mushrooms with a small dinner salad. Coffee
After Dinner: Pot of FF Greek yogurt and Earl Grey Tea

So… I think I know what’s going on and I’m going to correct it… this, I say, while I sip a large cup of coffee while typing this!  Now off to get layered and layered for work… it’s 37F outside and it’s going to be a dreadful walk!

Ciao!

Dukan – Day 109 It’s cold out there!!!

Wednesday was a PP day… Day 4 of 4 Pure Protein Days.

Daily Weight Loss: 0.4 lb/0.2 kg
Total Weight Loss: 51.5 lb/23.41 kg

It is COLD. I don’t like the COLD. I am a SUNNY FLORIDA kinda girl. And I’ve lived in the MIDDLE EASTERN DESERT for the last THREE years, to boot! It doesn’t get COLD there! It was 41 Fahrenheit in the morning… and I walked around the complex for 20 minutes, because I was off work. Bundled up like an Eskimo and all I could think of was Kath’s words that you lose more calories in the cold because of the shivering… I’m still trying to believe it. Friday morning it’s going to be 31… that is -1 Celsius  in case you didn’t know that!!

Breakfast: I picked up tea eggs for Lucy and I and I had my 2 eggs with some smoked salmon… yummy!
We then hired a car to pick us up and take us for a bit of furniture shopping. I was desperate for a book shelf and some kitchen stuff and I’m unable to communicate to taxi drivers w/o my personal assistant with me or on the phone. This guy, Hangzhou Jerry, has a nice web site and was AWESOME!!! Picked us up in a Buick van, that was clean and his English was impeccable and he was a GOOD DRIVER… woo hoo!!! He escorted us into the store, translated for us, toted the stuff out to the car, took it in the flat and then took us to lunch… all for 200 RMB (about $25)! Worth every dime 🙂
Lunch: Australian baby calf… I swear, that’s what the menu says!
Dinner: At the Vineyard with Lucy, Steve and Tracy. I had the Philly Cheese Steak Dukan style… it was yummy!
The Vineyards cat came back for a visit:

She's back!

I hope everyone is having a blessed day!

Ciao!

Dukan – Day 108

Tuesday was a PP day (3 out of 4).

Daily Weight Loss: 1.1 lb/0.5 kg
Total Weight Loss: 51.1 lb/23.21 kg and I’ve lost 20% of the body weight I started with!

Walked to work in the cool crisp air… the leaves are starting to change, so it makes it a pretty walk in the morning.

Breakfast: 2 tea eggs, 500 mL water, coffee w/splenda and skim milk
Lunch: Beef slices w/cilantro and garlic stems with hot chilis… yum! 500 mL water
Afternoon snack: Coke zero
Dinner: Stir fry sirloin with onions and garlic stems, earl grey tea

Then off to do Week 3 Day 2 of Couch to 5K… it’s kicking my ass to be honest! I have begun talking to the lady who tells me to “warm up”, “RUN!!!” and “walk”. I beg her to say walk… while gasping for air. The people in my neighborhood give me LOTS of room as they walk past the “gibbering white lady”… 😀 Last night was particularly tough. It’s cold AND it was raining… that sprinkly kind of rain that isn’t enough to call rain, but still is rain. Like misting or something. The nice thing was that it kept me cool… the hard part was worrying I’d throw out one of my knees in a slip and fall. I find it terrifying to run and more terrifying to run in the RAIN! But dammit… I did it! And there is a sense of accomplishment at the end of the routine… like, “Holy shit, I can’t breathe, but I did it!!!” and “Yay me”… which I say out loud and make the neighbors stare even more. 😀 I just keep chanting… I’M GOING TO BE FIT AND HEALTHY, IT MAY KILL ME, BUT I’LL BE FIT!!

I hope everyone is having a great week! I am 🙂

Ciao!

Dukan- Day 107… 50 pounds GONE!

Monday was the 2nd PP (Pure Protein) day in a row (2 more to go).

Daily weight loss: 0.9 lb/0.4 kg
Total weight loss: 50 lb/22.71 kg

Today was my first full time day back at work since last week’s trip to HK. First thing I did was look at the temp… 41F… brrrr. I have to psych myself up for the 1.5 km (1 mile) walk to work, but I layered, thought about what Kath says (shivering burns calories) and headed off. First stop… the egg shop, where I pick up my daily 2 tea eggs 🙂

A bit of history for those of you following… I’m a South Florida girl who loves the sun and the heat… I wouldn’t move to the cold parts of the U.S. for a million dollars a month… well, maybe a million, but not a penny less!!! I just finished living in the Middle East for 3 years, where 41 was normal… 41 CELSIUS THAT IS!!! Warm, sunny, low humidity… ahhhhh! Now I’m in China… let’s just say it’s not so warm and sunny… LOL. The job is pretty good though, and I have goals!

I saw two new couples today in my clinic (both from the States) and that considerably brightened my day!

I walked to the halal restaurant to meet Lucy for lunch and had the beef with cilantro and garlic stems… yummy!

Afternoon of creating PowerPoints for staff development, I left a bit early to go to the grocery store (round 2… see yesterdays blog)… and it was  SHIFT CHANGE for the taxi drivers! WTF??? This was not happening… I need groceries… I even had my assistant, Kitty, offer a 100 RMB tip to a driver… who turned it down! Then I look to my right and see a taxi man waving his arms (he had just spoken with the driver who turned us down) and he says come on, I will take you… oh thank God!!! So in the car we go, Kitty tells him where we need to go and he gets us there in pretty good time. When I go to pay, I hand him the fare and the extra 100 RMB… he refuses to take it… I insist… he says no, and moves his shirt collar to show me a wooden cross… I’ve had my Random Act of Kindness for the week and walk away with a big smile… even in the land of loogyville… nice things can happen 🙂

Edited… LOL, I forgot to add dinner in my blog, I was so excited about the RAofK 🙂 Dinner was a stir fry of pork tenderloin, whole onions and garlic stems… it was super yummy! And my before bed snack was a pot of FF yogurt with splenda and bran… Now it’s complete 😀

Ciao!

Dukan – Day 106

Sunday was a PP (Pure Protein) Day… I will do 4 of these in a row to kick my butt back into ketosis after 4 PV days in a row 🙂

Daily Weight Loss: 1.1 lb/0.50 kg
Total Weight Loss: 49.1 lb/22.31 kg

After 4 days in Hong Kong, it was nice to sleep in until 8. Didn’t have to be at work until noon. Yay! I took a 15 minute walk in the cool (41F) air, then picked up tea eggs for Lucy and I. So for breakfast I had 2 tea eggs and 2 small slices of ham… yum!

Then a walk to the hospital where I saw a patient and then over to the International Hotel where I was to give a marketing talk about our LDR (Labor,Delivery,Recovery) Room… OK, so no one told me this was basically black tie!!! I’m in trouser with blue and white stripes, my favorite dark blue wool hiking shirt with a sleeveless white top with blue embroidery and my black boots. I feel a tad bit OK about it since Winnie, Mickey, Minnie and some pink Pig are roaming around, as well. I also didn’t get the memo that there would be about 250 – 300 people there! There was beautiful music, a 4 string quartet, a solo pianist and a jazz sax player (who was awesome!)… and then 2 presentations, mine and the head Dean of the hospital, who talked about water birth… then we auctioned off a water birth package and I gave out books. Fun day! I drank 2 750 mL bottles of water during this 3 hour event 😀

Afterwards, Lucy, Kitty and I start looking for a taxi so that we can get to the grocery store downtown. I have no groceries in the house, at all! They are all full and after 30 minutes of trying, I get frustrated because I’m hungry RIGHT NOW, and if I don’t eat I may stray! So we abandon the idea of shopping and go to the steak house… where I get “Australian Baby Cow”… LOL, I presume this means veal raised in Australia, but who knows…. it was yummy and came out on a sizzling cast iron plate.

Walked home and before bed a pot of FF (fat free) Greek yogurt with bran and Splenda and a nice warm cup of Earl Grey Tea while Skyping and then off to bed…. Nice day J

Ciao!

Dukan – Day 105 Back to reality!

Saturday was a PV day… and since I received a message about this…
PV = Protein & Veggie day
PP = Pure Protein day

Daily weight loss: 0.2 lb/0.1 kg
Total weight loss: 48.0 lb/21.81 kg
Which is exactly where I was on Tuesday’s weigh in, the day prior to going to Hong Kong, so all in all, I’m pretty proud of the fact that I didn’t gain anything while on my birthday trip to Hong Kong… not that I did any big cheat or anything, but I did have 4 PV days in a row, and that is not good. I also exceeded my goal for my birthday by 3 pounds, which is AWESOME, but missed my mini-goal that I set after reaching that goal, by 2 pounds… silly me for setting the bar too high… LOL

Busy day on Saturday, first… it was my birthday… awesome day to be born! Second, we had to get Ethel up and off to the airport early in the morning for her flight to Manila. We were sad to see her go, as we had planned on her coming to Hangzhou with us.

Breakfast: Pot of FF (fat free) Greek yogurt with splenda and bran, while I caught up on emails, chatted on Skype with some special people and then wrote my blog.

After breakfast and while Lucy was having a lie in (she loves sleeping!!!) I took a long, luxurious bath salts bath in the deep soaking tub of the suite we were staying in. Ahhh! Did I mention we got this free suite upgrade because it was my birthday? How cool is that!? Then out of the tub to get ready to finish packing and check out of the South Pacific Hotel.

Check out completed we decided to head back over to Time’s Square and do the money exchange thing and then we went to caffe HABITU for postcards, coffee and a light lunch. I had a skinny (skim milk) cafe latte with splenda and a HABITU salad, mixed greens with avocado (yes, it was worth it) and smoked salmon.

Then off to the money exchange and then the hotel for our bus ride back to the airport. What a wild ride that was! He was 15 minutes late in getting to us, and I was worried we weren’t going to be there the 2 hours before the flight cut-off (I have extreme travel anxiety, and worry about these things obsessively… I am not afraid of flying, because I’m not afraid of dying, but I get anxious about whether or not I’ve packed everything, left anything behind, will get to the airport, etc) so there I sat in the hotel lobby, twitching and bobbing and driving Lucy crazy! We had NOTHING to worry about. This man drove the HUMONGOUS bus like we were in the F-1, he handled it like it was a Porsche… Lucy suggested I film it, but I was too busy holding on and might have barfed if I was trying to video it! We got to the airport in under 45 minutes and that was even with picking up someone at a different hotel! (You can look back to the Thursday post, this usually take a minimum of just over an hour, and the other night it was over 2 hours!!!!) I was impressed 😀

Checked in and when at the gate realized that they had not put me in a window seat, but in a MIDDLE seat… the DREADED MIDDLE seat!! So I went up, put on my best smiley face and asked for a change for Lucy and I… the lady said that she would have to wait until check in was closed, but there was a reserved row, and she’d try to get us in it… and she did, which is awesome 🙂 Dinner on plane was, of course, non-Dukan friendly, but I did pick out the fish and dip it in green tea to get the “stuff” off of it, and ate it. I also ate a few teaspoons of the cottage cheese I was somehow able to bring as a carry-on 😀 FF Cottage cheese, of course.

Flight a bit bumpy, but no problems and the icing on the cake… when Chinese Immigration scanned my passport for re-entry… a little machine said HAPPY BIRTHDAY! What a cool surprise… the Immigration lady smiled and looked at my passport and also wished me a happy birthday… feelin’ the love ❤

At the airport Kitty and KaKa were there to pick us up and off to my apartment we went. Did a bit of unpacking and made a light meal of stir fried shrimp, edamame and garlic cloves…. yummy… Skyped and then to bed…

I had a great birthday! It is wonderful to spend time traveling with friends… I feel so blessed and loved. I had dozens and dozens of well wishes on my Facebook page and as I responded to every single one of them, I realized just how fortunate I am. One of the things that I noticed is that at least 20 of the “Happy Birthdays” were from women (and a dad or two) who I helped Birth their baby into this world… How awesome is that??? I’m praying for a year with a few less bumps than this past one, but an adventure none the less… because life should be fun!

Dukan – Day 104 – Hello 48!!!

Friday was a PV day.. Of which I’ve done too many in a row!

Daily weight loss: -0.6 lb/0.3 kg
Total weight loss: will post tomorrow when back with the spreadsheet.

Today it’s my birthday (Saturday) and I had a lovely celebration with my girlies here in Hong Kong!

Breakfast: Fat free Greek yogurt with bran and Splenda & 500 mL water & coffee with Splenda and skim milk.
Snack: Starbucks cafe latte, skinny (with skim milk) and Splenda… Lucy is a bad influence, will be glad to get back to Hangzhou where this isn’t easily bought!!

We took the subway to Central and then a 1 km uphill walk to get to the Victoria’s Peak tram station.

20111203-110751.jpg

The view from up there is amazing!

20111203-110843.jpg

After looking around we headed to the top floor and had lunch at Bubba Gumps!

20111203-110945.jpg

And had a burger with no bun and a salad… 2nd time in two days, but hey… I can’t get a decent burger in China and it’s my birthday… Low carb, but not low fat! It was, however, yummy!

20111203-111130.jpg

After lunch we took the tram back down and raced to the embassy to get Lucy & Ethel’s visas. Sadly, Ethel wasn’t approved 😦 We then headed back to Troy, the amazing travel agent, and booked her a flight to Manila. Lucy has decided the next time we’re in Hong Kong we’re going to a. Pop in and take a photo of said Troy for my blog and b. Ask him out for a drink 😀 Sounds like a plan!

We then headed back to the South Pacific for the girls to take a short nap (I never nap, I’m afraid I’ll miss something!). And then we got ready for my birthday dinner. I actually put on make-up (a bit of eye liner and mascara!) and that little black dress I’ve been talking about, with my black tights and black boots… Feelin’ groovy about turning 48!

20111203-111745.jpg

20111203-111829.jpg

20111203-111909.jpg

Then off for the 1.5 mile walk to Ryan’s steakhouse for dinner. We had a great time! Where I ate another bacon, bleu cheese burger and a salad… Believe me, I’ve got my fill now 😀 Oh, and I had a glass of wine, which of course is not Dukan, but maybe my 4th alcohol drink this year, it was nice to relax with friends.

20111203-112104.jpg

Lucy being cheeky…

20111203-112246.jpg

Ethel being Ethel…

20111203-112340.jpg

And they all sang Happy Birthday and the cake was my FAVORITE!! Carrot cake!

20111203-112425.jpg

Do you think I had some?? Not a chance! Not worth the feeling of being bloated and YUCKY!

20111203-112616.jpg

Then a hike back to the room. What a great night out with friends! I am SO excited to see what my 48th year has in store for me. Although the 47th was like a roller coaster, I rode the ride that was intended to get me where I am today. I can only imagine that 48 will be just as awesome a year!

Ciao!

Dukan – Day 103 – Goodbye 47!

Thursday was a PV day.

Daily weigh loss: 0.4 lb/0.2 kg
Total weight loss: ??? I don’t have my spreadsheet with me…

So, I usually blog in the morning about the day before, which I’m doing now. But, the title is appropriate for today 🙂 More on that at the end.

Woke up after 8 happy to be with friends in Hong Kong. I am amazingly grateful for my blessings of having a job that enables me to travel. And off we went in search of breakfast and passport photo booth for Lucy & Ethel so they could apply for their visas to visit China.

Quick walk to Times Square to find out the photo places open at 11, shuhada! We tuck into a busy little diner and order eggs and sausage. Just the right portion for me, but the girls were a bit concerned that I’ll be starving them 🙂 (Ethel just opened the bathroom door after her daily weigh in to let me know she lost 0.9 kg since yesterday morning… She’ll be a believer soon!)

We then got their pictures done and took a walk around city center. The whole city is decorated for Christmas and is beautiful…

20111202-101131.jpg

20111202-101209.jpg

Then off to the visa office at 2 pm.

Lucy & Ethel filling out forms…

20111202-101253.jpg

The LINE!

20111202-101350.jpg

Where, after over an hour we find out that Ethel needs more documents because she’s from the Philippines. She needs a return tix to Manila (which we were going to book in Hangzhou) and hotel voucher… What to do? We decided to hit up a sushi restaurant and figure it out. I was able to google map a travel agency 175 meters away, so after a hurried lunch we rushed over and got to the agency at 403 pm. Note that the embassy closes at 5 and if we didn’t get them documents before then Ethel & Lucy would have been stuck here until at least Monday, and Hong Kong is an expensive city to be stuck in!! I have to add here that we don’t realize how lucky we are to be from the Western world until we find friends who aren’t and realize it is much more difficult for them to travel as freely as I can.

Troy, the amazing travel agent (and not bad to look at either) got to work right away on the reservations while Lucy and I darted back downstairs in search of wireless so I could email him Ethel’s flight info to Hangzhou and he could print it for those pesky immigration people. Lucy says while we’re running back to the agency that she feels like we’re on The Amazing Race!

Troy got the tickets done in under 20 mi it’s!!! And then we started running the 3 blocks, which includes taking stairs up and crossing over the highway and then back down and arrive at the embassy at 441. They let us in! YAY! And we go right up to the desk we were at before. After a few tense moments the girl accepts Ethel’s papers and then states… “oh, because she is not applying from her home country, she is from the Philippines, AND this is her first time applying for a visa to China, she may not be approved… WTF!!?? Deep breaths… We smile, we thank, we’re told to come back Friday after 4 for the decision… We’re praying it all goes well, if not, we make other plans.

After that fiasco we trek back to the hotel, feeling a bit deflated, but trying to keep positive. The girls took a little rest, I read my emails and the other blogs I follow and then we got ready for the long hike to Ryan’s Chicago steakhouse. My favorite in this city. I had my standard bacon cheese burger and a house salad, no bun, no fries, of course!

Then a walk around the mall…

20111202-102929.jpg

My jacket now zips and I’m very happy about that 😀

20111202-102958.jpg

20111202-103040.jpg

And then the long walk back to the hotel… Fabulous day!

Now for the “Friday” part… It’s Friday morning and my last day of being 47. It’s been a crazy, emotional, fun, nightmarish, amazing roller coaster of a year. I’ve had a few endings and a couple of awesome new beginnings. Life is very, very good and I absolutely can’t wait to see what adventures I’ll experience in my 48th year.

To my mommy… I know that today is a tough day for you, I’m sure daddy is smiling down on you, saying Happy Anniversary… Thanks to both of you for creating me.

Ciao!

Quote of the day: Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.

Dukan – Day 102 Up, Up & Away… Again!

I’m actually sitting on the plane waiting for take off. I was suppose to fly to meet Lucy & Ethel tomorrow, but the hospital needs me for marketing on Sunday, so I’m flying a day early. I can’t wait to surprise them at the airport!!! In one of those cool things that happen in life, our flights are at the exact same time today, so they are also sitting on an Emirates plane in Dubai, probably also ignoring the safety video, but probably not blogging 🙂 Their flight is at 1005 UAE time and mine is at 1405 Hangzhou time… I get there 5 hours before they do 😀

I brought the scale with me, but I didn’t upload my weight spread sheet to my iPad, so will have no clue until I’m back on Saturday on total weight loss, but will keep up with daily loss.

Well, the plane has just taken off, I think I’m going to eat a couple boiled eggs (airplane food is definitely not Dukan friendly!!) and then take a little nap… Will do more blogging later.

OK… Fast forward… I took a bus from airport that took nearly 2 hours to get to hotel. We’re upgraded to a suite because of my birthday… How cool is that?

20111201-131513.jpg

20111201-131636.jpg

The toilet is a Toto and has some pretty interesting buttons that individually clean your bottom and the seat warms up when you open the lid… Very posh!

Then I had to take the subway and train back to the airport to get the girlies. They were very surprised to see me 🙂 Here’s the sign I had…

20111201-132457.jpg

And the reverse sign…

I love surprising people as evidenced by this blog from 18 months ago: https://flamidwyfe.wordpress.com/2010/05/19/camino-blog-updates/

Taxi back to hotel, then a very late dinner at a street cafe 🙂 Glad to be with friends!

Dukan – Day 101

Tuesday was a PP day.

Daily Weight Loss: -0.8 lb/-0.38 kg (so a little gain)
Total Weight Loss: 47.8 lb/21.73 kg

Warning… I’m a midwife… I deliver babies for a living and we have no problem discussing bodily functions… even at Denny’s at 3 a.m….

LOL… a teeny gain… the scales of woe… hehehe, simply my weekly teeny gain from, well not doing the one thing that you do when you eat lots of carbs… poop. Now, just because you don’t poop everyday on this diet doesn’t mean you are constipated (although that does happen to some people). I think for most though, it’s a few things happen.

  • A reduction of food = a reduction of waste
  • An increase in healthy food = your body uses it to it’s highest ability
  • Like babies that are breastfed, you are feeding your body food it needs to survive, so it is using it.

That said… I think that after 4 or 5 days, I see this creep up in weight and then I poop and then all is right with the world again 😀 This is a short one because I’m packing for Hong Kong and have to be at work in an hour… yes, the scale is in the suit case!

Breakfast: 2 Tea Eggs… I’m going to experiment with this over the weekend and post my healthy version… the recipes I found online have sugar… the man downstairs in the shop says “no sugar, my eggs!” so I believe him 🙂

Lunch: Leftover turkey and 1 ounce of low fat mozzarella… it’s done and gone and even though technically not too Dukan friendly, every once in a while I’m gonna have cheese!

Afternoon snack: 1 tea egg & 1 regular boiled egg (my personal assistant brought me 2 eggs in the morning… she’s such a keeper!)

Dinner: I cut up a sirloin steak and simply stir-fried it with 4 garlic cloves… okay, maybe 6 or 7 garlic cloves, but who’s counting… I live alone and I love garlic.

Had an extra long walk because Vivien and I walked to Walmart on the way home, which is past my street, then walked to my flat… So probably a total of 3 miles of walking today.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Ciao!
