Dukan – Day 50

Today was a PV day.
Daily weight loss: +0.9 lb/+0.4 kg
Total weight loss: 29.5 lb/13.41 kg

Well, a little disappointed that I gained nearly a pound, but knew it had to happen at some point! I woke up sore as hell from my first workout in 3 years! Actually almost to the day… But a good sore. A “oh wow, I forgot about THOSE muscles” sore. I work out again tomorrow 🙂

Breakfast: 2 boiled eggs
Snack: FF cottage cheese
Lunch: Tuna with an egg mashed up and Dijon mustard
Dinner: 2 small pork chops, salad, mushrooms and garlic stems

I ate dinner late and didn’t get my walk in after dinner. I did walk the 1.5 km to work and back, for a total of 3 km and 40 or so mins walking at a brisk pace.

I hope everyone has a blessed day!

Dukan – Day 49 – 7 weeks in

Today was a PP Day.
Daily Weight Loss: 0.9 lb/0.40 kg
Total Wight Loss: 30.4 lb/13.81 kg

30 pounds!!! I couldn’t be more pleased! This program is really working for me!
Just a little bit about my daily routine. I work 0.9 miles (1.5 kms) from where I live. Every single morning for the last couple of weeks I’ve walked to and from work. I’ve been doing a brisk walk, getting my heart rate into the 140’s.
This morning I started a thrice weekly cardio/core body class… at 630 a.m.!!! So, I got up, went to class, was able to do about 40% of the stuff in the class and then walked home, listening to the soundtrack of GI Jane. Demi inspires me 🙂
I’m giving a lecture this afternoon, so I’ll walk back to work and home again. Nearly 4 miles of walking + a cardio/core workout… Hope my body doesn’t get mad at me!
What have YOU done for exercise this week?
Ciao!

Dukan – Day 48

Today was suppose to be a PP day but turned out to be a PV day. I had so many leftover veggies in the fridge, that I didn’t want them to go to waste. It turned out that it was OK, because I still lost weight, which is a good thing. The other good thing…
my BMI is under 40! YAY!

Daily Weight Loss: 0.7 lb/0.30 kg
Total Weight Loss: 29.5 lb/13.41 kg

I want to post this again, because it’s been SO helpful! Charlotte is a fellow Dukaner who created this amazing spreadsheet… I love it and recommend it to anyone doing a diet program…. http://charlottesdukandiet.wordpress.com/2010/08/11/the-progress-tracker/

The one nice thing about having so many parameters to watch is that as long as you are losing, every few days there is a new milestone. When I read Dr. Dukan’s book, I didn’t think weighing in everyday was a good idea. I am totally converted on that now. It is a great idea for many reasons:

  1. You see on a daily basis whether you’ve gained or loss. This helps you get back on track. I was worried while in Shanghai this week that I wouldn’t be weighing myself everyday. That “worry” made me stay on track, because the only person I’m doing this program for is ME, and I sure don’t want to disappoint ME 🙂
  2. You see milestones hit every week, as long as you’re losing. Last week I hit 25 pounds gone AND 2 stone! Today my BMI is under 40… YAY for me 🙂 These little milestones make the small sacrifices worth it!
  3. In combination with blogging, it keeps you accountable. If not to anyone else, to yourself. Blogging is like journaling, but making it public. The benefit of blogging is that your mom and your friends and your Dukaners and your cyber-friends can check in on you and cheer you on. For me, this cheering has made a WORLD of difference. Because even though first and foremost I want to make ME happy, it is so nice to see other peoples enthusiasm for what you are doing. We all love receiving positive feedback… and at least for me, it has made this journey much easier!
Now, for my worries… I worry that I’ll hit a plateau, I mean seriously, how long can the losing go on before my body says… “um, we’re taking a break here”. I still have A LOT of weight to lose. My cynical side says that it’s going to happen. But, as I lie in bed at night and read Dr. Dukan’s book, I realize that even though there may be some small bumps in the road, the program is sound. If you eat frequent, small meals, that are the prescribed foods for the day, you may not plateau too much for too long. Why? Because your body doesn’t think you’re starving it like it does when you fast or seriously reduce calories. It takes those meals and uses up the calories for energy and you keep losing weight.
For now, I’m going to just try not to worry about it. Keep sticking to the program and see day by day what that scale says. So far, so good. And thanks to all of you that pop in and read and leave messages… they help… A LOT… especially this girl who is so far from home, in a country that eats lots of RICE 🙂 heheh

Dukan – Day 43 – Down 2 stone!

Today was supposed to be a PV day but ended up a PP day.

Daily Weight Loss: 2.0 lb/0.90 kg
Total Weight Loss: 28.2 lb/12.81 kg . but most importantly I hit a milestone.. 2.01 STONE!
I know… you guys are saying “what the hell is a stone!?!?” … well it’s an imperial weight, mostly used in England and Ireland  equal to 14 pounds. It is used mostly for personal body weight measurement. So, “I’m down 2 stone”… Sounds nice 🙂

Yesterday was a pretty emotional day for me. I resigned from my job in Al Ain, UAE, I had to write emails to some pretty stunned people, but I had great relief from just doing it and moving on from what had become a nightmare for many reasons.

I had the bad news from my amazing friend Amanda that her sweet 4 year old Gavin was probably not going to survive graft versus host disease from a transplant he received to heal him from not one, but two different types of leukemias… Gavin, who I was honored to receive into my hands and hand up to a mommy who deserved and got a 2nd chance.

I had the elation of finally sitting down and typing up the itinerary for the trip to Thailand next month with Cathy, Karen and Dominique… up and down all day!

And what do I USUALLY do when I’m on a roller coaster emotionally? Especially the downside of it… EAT… comfort EAT… comfort EAT CARBS. What did I do instead? WALK, WALK, and more WALK. And drank a crapload of water! What a difference! I don’t feel even worse (emotionally or physically) because I downed a bag of chips. As tempting as that might be.

Late Breakfast: 2 eggs fried (by the way I’m still using olive oil to cook with) and 3 little pork rashers… like bacon, but smaller and rounder. 1/2 liter water, coffee
Snack: a couple of bitefuls of that Fat Free Cottage cheese… YUM
Snack: the leftover 3 rashers from the morning
Dinner: 3 slices of ham, 2 boiled eggs with a schmear of Fat Free
Philly’s cream cheese that tasted yucky! 750 mL water
Snack: Pot of FF yogurt with bran and splenda 1/2 liter water

It wasn’t so hard not comfort eating. Made easier by the fact that there is no “old” comfort food in the house. I’m comforting myself on boiled eggs and water 😀 and that is making all the difference in my weight loss!

Dukan – Day 18 – Day 10 Cruise

Well… no time to weigh myself this morning… cuz the Dulcolax woke me up. I didn’t want a result that wasn’t accurate, so I bypassed the weigh in. In regard to the Dulcolax, it worked… somewhat. I’m still feeling quite constipated. I’m still deciding what my next step is!

Today was a PV day. I didn’t eat as much as I should have. It’s been a shit week at work, not enough sleep, an overnight laborer (those of us in the birthing industry refer to it as “Death by Primip”) due to the fact that it takes FOREVER and a day to have the baby. I haven’t had time or energy to go to the market to pick up essentials, so my meals went as follows:

Breakfast: 500 mL water, cup of coffee (BAD SANDI!)

Lunch: Two little steaks cooked by the chef at work… he always surprises me. Now if I could get him to make it a little pink and not so well done 🙂 He also inquired whether veggies were on my diet today and I told him yes, so he sent up a gorgeous plate of steamed broccoli, cauliflower and squash… the chef rocks! I also had a diet coke, and about 250 mL water.

Afternoon snack: Big coffee made by the cafe girls special just for me. The cafe is in our atrium at the hospital and I watched over the railing as they made it. I love that they stir in the FF CoffeeMate and then “whir” it in the machine thingy. Makes me feel special that so many people are on board with my weight loss!

Dinner: At StoneGrill… again. Yummy, tender, moist meat. Had the tenderloin, that you grill on your own hot stone in front of you…. YUMMY!!! I had steamed broccoli and cauliflower with this meal, as well. If I’m not moving things through after all these damn veggies… I’m going to be a mighty grumpy girl!!!

I’m lacking a bit on the water… I sipped more through the day, but I’m going to down 250 mL before I go to bed to make sure I get it all in. No walk tonight… I’ll do it in the morning and then again in the evening. I have NO ENERGY LEFT!

Ciao!

Dukan – Day 17 – Day 9 Cruise

Today was a PP Day (I’m doing 2 PP and 1 PV alternatively)

Daily Loss: 0.0 lb/0.0 kg
Total Loss: 16.6 lb/7.55 kg
Wt. to go: 93.4 lb/42.5 kg

So, I didn’t have a weight loss today, but I’m not discouraged, because I didn’t have a weight gain either 🙂 I am pretty sure that after I take the Dulcolax tonight before bed, I’ll have some weightloss in the morning 😀 It’s been 5 days and I’m a bit uncomfortable to say the least!

Breakfast: Yogurt with splenda and oat bran (obviously not working!!!!!) and before that I drank 500 mL of COLD WATER and then 250 mL of HOT COFFEE and still nothing 😦 LOL
Mid-Morning: a cup of coffee with splenda and FF CoffeeMate, made special by the baristas down in the cafe at the hospital I work at… they are the BEST!
Lunch: A plate of roast beef, less cooked than the day before, a diet coke, 500 mL of water.
Mid-Afternoon: another cup of my special coffee and another 500 mL of water
Dinner: Mixed grill from the Lebanese restaurant, beef and chicken grilled over the fire… yum! They also threw in a yummy grilled half onion, slightly blackened on the outside… mmm, mmm!!!! Diet Coke.

I then walked for 28 minutes… FAST and drank another 500 mL I’m just cooling off from the walk in 97 degree heat and then a quick shower and bed… I’m hoping for some good results in the morning 😉

Dukan – Day 16 – Day 8 Cruise

Today was a PP Day

Daily Loss: 0.3 lb/0.14 kg
Total Loss: 16.6 lb/7.55 kg
Wt. to go: 93.4 lb/42.5 kg

Small weight loss from yesterday to today, but it’s a loss, and that’s all that matters. Still a bit knackered from the 28 hours of no sleep, but recovering.

Food today:
Breakfast: Yogurt w/ splenda and oat bran
Lunch: about 5 oz. of sliced roast beef, WAY over cooked 😦
Dinner: Chicken and shrimp stir-fried in a teeny amount of olive oil with a whole onion cut into wedges and lots of rosemary and pepper and a wee bit of salt.

No time for snacks today. Meetings at work all morning until lunch, then the media came for interviews about the birth and information on water birth and then another meeting in the afternoon.

I did get my water in and my other drinks were 2 coffees and a diet coke. I took a nice long walk tonight, picking up my pace with the sound track from G.I. Jane… kick ass sound track!

Now off to bed to start it all over again tomorrow!

Ciao!

Dukan – Day 15 – Day 7 Cruise

Sunday was PP Day
Monday is a PV Day

Daily Loss: 0.4 lb/0.18 kg
Total Loss: 16.3 lb/7.41 kg
Wt. to go: 93.7 lb/42.6 kg

Well, I didn’t get a chance to blog yesterday because I went in to work on my day off (at 8 a.m.) to do a practice drill and we ended up with a real patient in real labor… our first! I left this morning… 27 HOURS LATER, completely shattered, but happy that I didn’t go off my program AND I even got a 30 minute walk in with the pediatrician at 300 a.m.! BTW, it was STILL 97 degrees Fahrenheit at 3 a.m.!

I did manage to get away for an hour or so last night and had dinner at the StoneGrill. OMG was that yummy, yummy food! I asked for the chef to come out and explained my Dukan program to him and he brought me out 3 GORGEOUS sirloin medallions for me to cook on my own Stone Grill hot plate along with a bowl of sliced onions for me to grill, as well. Yeah, that was YUMMY! I was in heaven.

By the time I got home this morning I was starving. What I love is that the girls in the coffee cafe inside my hospital now make my coffee with the Fat Free Coffee Mate and still give it a steamy feel by using the machine to “fluff” it for me. That sustained me enough to drive home!

So now, I’ve had a 2.5 hour nap (wouldn’t sleep tonight if I slept too much) and I’m up and blogging. I’ll be back to my regular blogging tomorrow night, with an end of the day food round up!

Now off to finish eating the smoked salmon with FF fromage frais and onion bits on top… trying to ward of the cat 🙂

LOL… I am so tired I forgot to title my blog 😀

Dukan – Day 11 – Day 3 Cruise Phase

Today is a PP day… Pure Protein.

Daily Loss: 2 lbs/0.91 kg (not sure why it was so much!)
Total Loss:  15.5 lbs/7.05 kg!!! and over a stone (for my British friends!)
Wt. to go: 94.5 lbs/43 kg

I had a really good day. Started out with an egg and 2 turkey slices. Snack of a pot of fromage frais. Lunch of a small sirloin and shrimp. Dinner a lovely perch and some left over sirloin bits. Snack was a pot of yogurt with oat bran and splenda… yum.

I got lots accomplished today which gave me even more incentive to keep going.

And to top it all off, I got a fabulous spread sheet from a fellow Dukaner named Charlotte who ROCKS! So… no more tracker. 🙂 I’ll post the info at the top of each blog.

You can follow Charlotte’s progress here: http://charlottesdukandiet.wordpress.com/

Dukan – Day 10 – Day 2 Cruise Phase

Still enjoying the program. Haven’t wavered a bit, which is awesome for me! I’m down 13 pounds and feeling GREAT!!!

Yesterday I had the usual high protein fare, but had 3 asparagus spears with dinner… YUMMY! I miss veggies the most, especially salads and I am REALLY missing putting sesame seeds on everything. But I’m hanging in there. To see a bit of weight off every single morning, gives me enough incentive to make it through another day.

I am walking 22-25 minutes a night… late, since I live in the Middle East and it is still 100 degrees Fahrenheit at 9 p.m.! I’m also getting in my 1.5 Liter of water per day, which is so necessary here in the desert. I am feeling more hydrated!

Today I had eggs for breakfast, a couple of slices of turkey for snack, and then again for lunch with a cup of yogurt. Afternoon snack was another cup of yogurt to which I added 2 splenda and my 1.5 TBS of oat bran. Dinner was sirloin steak and shrimp… today was a pure protein day, so no veggies… but there is always tomorrow! 🙂

Here’s the ticker from this morning’s weigh in:
