Radio Show Tonight

I have the opportunity to be a guest on the Maternally Yours radio show tonight. I am super excited. I am a guest with two of my heroes, Robin Lim (who won the CNN Hero of the Year award in 2011) and Robbie Davis-Floyd, who’s research and writings has led to an awakening among many people… midwives, doctors, women. Her work is important. I feel humbled to be invited to be on a show with them.

I invite you to listen in… it took me 3 days to decide to share this post, because to be honest, I’m nervous as ALL GET OUT about being on the radio. But I am prepared 🙂

Here’s the link: http://maternallyyours.blogspot.com/2013/08/episode-100-pregnancy-and-birth-ritual.html  The directions for hearing the show are listed there. The show begins at 6:00 p.m. EST.

Here I am… rockin’ my inner Ghandi… Praying for peace and wisdom… Hope to see you there!

On July 31st I was feeling playful and posted a “Name That Tune” game with three photographs that depict something from the song.  Only one person guessed correctly the title and author of the song Sandi who blogs at Flamidyfe’s Blog  guessed that the three photos were:  1) Purple Clover  2) Queen Anne’s Lace  3) Crimson hair across your face…you could make me cry if you don’t know….

Song:  You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go

Artist: Bob Dylan

Album: Blood on the Tracks

Sandi is the winner of this little fun game we played, but more importantly Sandi is a winner in LIFE!!  She just celebrated a year since she took the bull of her life by the horns and wrangled in her weight for an astonishing 100+ pound weight loss.  Losing that much weight takes courage and determination, Sandi has both in spades as…

My Granddaughter Celeste Alena

Something a bit different than my Dukan diet… A story about my oldest grandchild, Celeste and a special request for my blogging community.

Celeste was born with a brain abnormality called microcephaly, which means small head, which results in a small brain. She also has agenesis of the corpus collosum. The corpus collosum is a thin, tendon like membrane that separates the two sides of the brain. In Celeste’s case this has caused severe developmental delays. She does not sit or stand on her own. She is unable to feed herself or even roll over… But she has the most amazing smile and personality of anyone you could ever meet.
Celeste will be 13 on April 25th. When she was little it was easy to move her from one place to another, put her in a carseat and buckle her in safely. This isn’t possible anymore. For starters she’s growing and is dead weight and difficult to transfer into the car. Because of her brain abnormality, her limbs are rigid and my daughter and her hubby have to use extreme caution getting her into the car without hurting her.
My daughter Jenni has signed up for a contest to win a wheelchair accessible van. This would be a God-send for them. Purchasing a van is cost prohibitive (contrary to what a lot of people think, insurance does not pay for this).
If you could take a moment of your time and click the link below, I would be so very grateful. If you’d really like to increase Celeste’s chance of winning, you can click everyday 🙂
The PROMO CODE for the first time is 873… If you use that code, she gets 5 votes from you!

Here’s a pic of my sweet girl… If she could, she’d tell you THANK YOU 😀

Here’s a message from Celeste’s mom:

As many of you know, Chris & I really need a wheelchair van to safely transport Celeste. As she gets older & bigger, it gets more & more difficult to lift her in & out of our vehicles. The company below is being very generous by giving away 3 wheelchair accessible vehicles. It would be a huge blessing and relief for us if we were to win one of them. The winner will be selected from the top 10% that rec’d the most votes. Voting is going on now & ends on Sun., May 13th. We really need your help! Please vote for Celeste every day by searching “MacMunn” on http://www.nmeda.com under “Local Heros”. Right now, some people have over 3,000 votes & so we have a long way to go. Please share on your FB pages, blogs, etc. We really appreciate it. Enter promo code “873” the 1st time you vote to get 5 entries instead of 1. Thank you all so very much!

And thank you, from my WHOLE HEART!

Ridiculously Amazing!

So, I have a confession… I’m a blog stalker. I wish I could get paid to read and comment on blogs, I’d stop midwifing in a New York minute if there was such an opportunity.

Yesterday, while blog surfing I came upon a blog about promoting your blog on Pinterest and that sent me to this amazing blog on how to create printable quotes!

And so I downloaded Picasa and uploaded all of my pictures and picked this one as the background for today’s inspirational message…

I then went to iWatermark and put my blog watermark on it, so when it’s “liked” or “repinned” on Pinterest, my blog address will still be attached.

I took this picture while camping on Bassam Beach in Oman.

Dukan – Day 124 iDesk discovery!

Thursday was a PP day… Technically should have been a PV, but no veggies in the flat.

Daily Weight Loss: 0.9 lb/0.4 kg
Total Weight Loss: 54.6 lb/24.81 kg

So close to that 55 mark I can see it. My goal was to be down 55 pounds by the time I went home mid-January, but I think I just might surpass that goal 🙂

I had a great day at work. Started off with a big smile from my personal assistant Kitty…

Then a hug from Vivien…

I’m the mother to everyone, LOL… Whoever told me that Chinese don’t like being touched was wrong, either that or everyone loves Sandi 😀 Here’s a smiley pic of ViviMokaLaka and me…

I then went for morning handover and patient rounds and then went to the outpatient department where I got to play with my new APP… iDesk! OK, it’s not perfect, because I haven’t figured out how to send a format to my lap top so my assistant can translate to Chinese, but it gives me work to do when I’m away from my desk in the International Medical Care center. This is the workflow I created yesterday… What I love about it is the freestyle writing that turns into lovely shapes and the absolute EASE of connecting the boxes!! Even Kitty had a go at it 🙂 Here’s the chart…

I also downloaded DocsToGo Premium, and now I can share my Word, Excel and PowerPoint docs with my iPad and edit… My world is supremely better.. LOL Until now, my iPad has been an expensive email and Internet tablet… Now it’s a workhorse!

Breakfast: 2 tea eggs & 2 thin and small pieces of ham
Lunch: 2 tea eggs and 4 slices of that ham… Worked from desk during lunch
Dinner: Sirloin stir-fried with onions, garlic stems and garlic cloves
Snack: FF Greek yogurt with Splenda and bran

Lots of water, 1 coke zero, 2 cups of coffe and a cup of Earl grey tea.

Enjoying a day off today… It’ll be hard to motivate me to get out of my pajamas, get dressed and get moving 🙂

Ciao!

WordPress on iPhone!

Wow! It’s been a while since I blogged! Going thru the iPhone book and found out that WordPress has an app to blog from your iPhone! How convenient that would have been while walking the Camino.
I’ve moved this week from Abu Dhabi to Al Ain. A smaller, quieter town in the UAE. I’ve got a lively 3 bedroom villa with a garden. My mom is here visiting and has been a HUGE help with packing and unpacking.
I’m going to work at a brand new hospital as the head of maternity services. I’m very excited about the new adventure.
Well, that’s my quickie update! I hope the New Year will prove to be amazing for everyone!
Many Blessings,
Sandi
